Itajime Shibori Hand Clamp Dyed Pure Mulberry Silk Saree
Itajime, also known as Clamp Dyeing is a centuries old technique believed to have originated in Japan. This fascinating physical resist dyeing technique records a memory of the folds on the cloth. As layers of dye interact, the edges bleed out in a subtle haze or leave a crisp line, showing the varied characteristics of the fiber and dyes.
The process involves folding of the folding of the saree carefully, placing wooden blocks on both sides of the folded saree and then immersing it in the dye bath. The contrasting background creates a field which gives a luminous glow in different shapes. Its a laborious dyeing process involving the elements of fire and water. the whole process takes several days to finish.
The sarees that we have designed are made of pure passion for the love of natural processes. The designing is very contemporary and the fabric is soft, easy to drape and stands well. All our Sarees are limited editions.
